Black Palm
Black Palm is a very unusual timber to work with. The usable timber component is found on the outer edge of the Palm as the core is made up of a soft pithy material. Incredibly hard black veins run vertically up the trunk, these veins are surrounded by a softer material. This softer material is lighter in tone and creates a beautiful contrast with the black veins.
The black palm I use comes from Queensland. It’s something I use quite sparingly as it is quite rare. By cutting the grain in different directions I’m able to create a leopard spotted affect or long vertical black lines. I like to combine this timber with silver and ebony. I find this combination of materials to be really beautiful.
