Monument | Ring

$915.00

This handmade ebony ring is part of a body of work which explores the relationship between architecture and landscape. The tussle between built form and nature, as man strives to supplant its will. From the earliest of times, through to today, the monument strives to stand the test of time. But as the ages pass, it slowly weathers and succumbs to the all-encompassing forces of nature.

The ring is handmade in Melbourne Australia from  ebony, African blackwood and silver.

Description

Materials: Ebony, African blackwood, Silver

The African blackwood used in this piece was salvaged from a sawmill by a friend of mine. The mill was going to burn the small pieces which had the light coloured sapwood in them, as they did not have a market for them. I really like the contrast of the light and dark parts of the timber.

Indian ebony is an incredibly dense hardwood which can vary in colour from dark brown to jet black. It is often used in musical instruments such as pianos,  guitars and other string instruments.
