Sun, rainforest and the amazing outback, what’s not to love about Queensland. What a great place for a wedding! It also has some incredible timbers and one in particular is synonymous with the outback, Gidgee.
Gidgee is found in the arid and semi arid regions of Queensland, from the border of New South Wales to past Mount Isa. Gidgee is an incredibly hard Acacia, making it perfect for wooden wedding rings.
It can have a small ripple or figure in the grain, which is caused by the grain of the timber changing directions. When it has this pattern it’s called Ringed Gidgee. This timber is highly prized by knife makers and Luthiers for its beautiful pattern.
Gidgee was traditionally used by indigenous Australians in cleansing ceremonies and to make clapsticks, boomerangs and spears.
If you’re looking for a Queensland timber for your wedding ring you can’t go past Gidgee.
Matching wooden wedding rings made from Queensland Ringed Gidgee and silver.
