Kingwood
This timber has the most beautiful aroma when I’m making a piece of jewellery. It’s a member of the rosewood family and like rosewood, it has a very sweet smell. The trees can be found in parts of Mexico and Brazil and can grow up to 20m high.
It was the favourite timber of French kings Louis XIV and XV, who loved it so much that they had most of their furniture made from this timber. Hense it getting the name kingwood.
What I really love about this timber is the beautiful stripe in the grain. When I’m making jewellery I like to combine it with pink ivory wood. I think the pink and purple tones work really well together.
