This contemporary timber brooch is part of a body of work which explores the relationship between architecture and landscape. Man takes shelter in a small concrete building, outside, the untamed, the wild and the unknown play freely.
The piece is made in Melbourne Australia from ebony, wenge, cast concrete, and silver. Each piece of timber has been individually carved then assembled to form the final work. It was a finalist in the National contemporary jewellery award.

Indian ebony is an incredibly dense hardwood which can vary in colour from dark brown to jet black. It is often used in musical instruments such as pianos, Â guitars and other string instruments.
Wenge is a dense hardwood which is dark brown, almost black in colour. The grain pattern is accentuated by a slight variation in its tone.
